Cupcake Bouquets Are a Unique Gift for Mother's Day

Picture this (and then just look to your left): 12 mini gourmet (chocolate or vanilla) cupcakes, topped with a swirl of butter cream frosting, cascading from a beautiful vase. The cupcakes are held up like the flowers in a faux bouquet of greenery by a specialty green wire — one that baker David Brees, owner of Piece of Cake Cakes, hand bends himself.

"When I first had the idea for the cupcake bouquets, I searched online for a metal pail or something to elevate and set the cupcakes in. Others that I had seen before just slammed the cupcakes on toothpicks and it looked very rough," Brees said.

After months of looking and never finding what he wanted, Brees finally found a supplier that sold heavy-gauge wire, tough enough to allow him to hand bend each wire to hold a cupcake up and in place. And after a lot of trial and error, his cupcake flower bouquets made their debut just two months ago.

"Each one is literally a work of art," Brees said. "You will not find bouquets like this anywhere else on the globe."

This cupcake artist makes the entire bouquet come to life for each individual customer. He looks at them as a present, one that the receiver can enjoy through sight and taste.

So far, the bouquets have been a huge hit for first-time mothers. The smiley bouquet, with each cupcake topped with a candy smile, has been the perfect addition to a new mom’s baby shower or hospital room.

Each bouquet is $34.99 and receives free delivery in Clayton. Anywhere outside of Clayton gets a $5 flat rate added on because of gasoline prices.

And if you want something a little more sassy (yet still sweet) for your mom, try the margarita cupcakes.

Though not offered as a bouquet, you can get the margarita ones by the dozen or more.

"Made with lime and tequila, the margarita cupcakes are my most popular and they taste just like a margarita," Brees added. "They even have a little lime on top."
